Audit the sun first

Photograph the coop at morning, noon, and late afternoon during both leafy and leafless seasons. The useful mounting location may be the run roof or a nearby post—not the wall where the door opening happens to sit.

Look for winter-specific obstructions: a low sun angle behind a fence, snow that lingers on a shallow panel, or a roof edge that shades the panel while the yard still looks bright. Bright shade is not the same as direct charging exposure.
